Overview

App such as Instagram insist on square images, and allow crop only. Sometimes, you don't wish to crop that much of an image! Image SquareUp will let you very quickly add borders and save the image. Options include gradients, cropping, and image effects.

Using

opening images: ImageSquareUp edits one image at a time; multi-image editing is not supported. You can open an image in one of two methods:

  • open the app, then touch the open button. You can select any image from the gallery.
  • From the gallery, file manager, or other app, hit the share button, then select Image SquareUp from the share sheet.

saving images: Simply hit the save button, and the image will be saved the Saved Photos album.

edits: Hit the toolbox icon to open the toolbox.

  • Background buttons:the first two buttons show the background colors, by default both are black, with a rightward gradient. Obviously if both colors are the same, there is no visible gradient! Tapping either button will bring up a color picker. Either select a color from the list, or type in the RGB values (0-255), Further down, tapping the gradient button opens option for a solid color, or a gradient in various directions.
  • Rotate and Flip: The next two rows of buttons perform rotating and flipping. Some phone cameras are prone to sending images rotated, so depending on device you may need these buttons frequently!
  • Crop: Tapping the Crop button brings up a selection box that can be moved and resized to the desired area. Tap the green accept button to select, or the red cancel button to cancel.
  • Effects: A variety of of effects are available for adjustment or artistic modifications; some will show a slide bar or two to adjust the effect.The effect is previewed live; hit the green accept button to apply or red cancel button to cancel and close. The background will be unchanged when effect is applied.
    • Sepia applies a sepia effect; the degree depending on the slider.
    • Grayscale adjust to grays. No options are available.
    • Paper Sketch and Pencil Stroke modify the image to a black and white style drawing.
    • Blurs are available is several types. The Gaussian Blur applies a general bur across the image. Directional Blur applies a blur in a specific direction. The Radial Blur applies a blur around teh edges, leaving the center (relatively) unblured.
    •   A Sharpen applies a sharpen.
    • The Emboss effect creates a grayed emboss, with depth/amount and thickness options available.
    • The Toon effect does a color decrease effect, that at times can mimic old style cartoons.
    • A Gamma adjust changes the brightness/contrast.
    • And finally a hue adjust is available.
